Barrie Police are adding some extra eyes and ears to Halloween night with Pumpkin Patrols in neighbourhoods across the city.

The patrols will include auxiliary officers in marked police cruisers and Citizens on Patrol volunteers in a marked van.

The teams will be handing out candy to trick-or-treaters while providing a more visible presence on the streets.

Police say the volunteers will also help keep an eye out for any safety concerns and report them to officers.

Parents are being reminded to talk to children about staying with their group, watching for traffic and knowing who to approach if they need help.

"The Barrie Police Service wishes everyone a fun, safe, and happy Halloween. And if you see our auxiliary officers or COP volunteers in your community, please stop by, say hi, and enjoy a little Halloween spirit with your local police service," police said in a news release.
