Barrie police are looking for a suspect after a robbery in the north end of the city on Tuesday afternoon.
Officers say they were contacted at 1:40 p.m. about the robbery at a "large retail store" on Bayfield Street.
"Upon arrival at the scene, police learned that the male suspect responsible had entered the store and proceeded to select a number of items and placed them in a backpack," police said in a release on Wednesday.
"As the male passed all points of sale, he failed to pay for the selected items that he had selected. This thief then left the store and when approached by a Loss Prevention Officer, a struggle ensued, a knife was violently displayed, and a serious threat was made."
They say the officer suffered minor injuries and "released their grip on the suspect" who then fled on foot towards Livingstone Street West."
The suspect is described as a white male, around 20-30 years old.
He was wearing a black balaclava which covered his entire face and only exposed his eyes, a large grey hooded sweater with a hood over his head, blue jeans, and black shoes with a white sole. He was also carrying a dark-coloured backpack with yellow/green lining around the zippers.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Barrie Police Constable Halkidis at 705-725-7025, extension 2652.
