Barrie police seek driver that struck young cyclist

Incident happened on Grove Street East

A young cyclist was struck by a vehicle at 477 Grove St. East near Johnson Street around three Friday afternoon.

Barrie police say the driver of the Volkswagen, fled the scene.

In an email to Barrie 360 Saturday morning, police spokesman Peter Leon said the 14-year-old cyclist was transported to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Leon said the motorist got out of the car to inspect for damage to his vehicle and then left the area without providing assistance to the cyclist.

The driver is described as Middle Eastern, average build, 5’10”, thin beard, in his 50’s, and his clothing description is unknown. There was a passenger in the front described as Middle Eastern and approximately in his 60’s.
