Barrie Police seize drugs, semi-automatic assault style rifle during dispute downtown

A dispute downtown was just the start for Barrie Police when they responded to a report that a man had threatened a female with a knife around 2:30 Monday morning on Bayfield Street, near Dunlop Street.

“A detailed description of the suspect was provided and responding officers located the male who was found to be in possession of a knife. A subsequent search of a duffle bag and a backpack revealed a quantity packaged crystal methamphetamine, fentanyl, cocaine, Canadian currency and semi-automatic assault style rifle with ammunition. He was immediately taken into custody and was transported to Barrie Police Headquarters where the investigation continued,” police said in a news release on Monday.

A 33-year-old from Elmvale is up on the following charges:

  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Careless storage of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited device or ammunition
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  • Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition
  • Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition)
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking- Fentanyl
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking- Hydromorphone
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance- Cocaine
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance- Hydromorphone
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Fentanyl
  • Possession of a firearm contrary to prohibition order.

He has been held in custody and is scheduled to appear Monday afternoon, by video, for a bail hearing.
