Barrie Police are asking for the patience of the community as they investigate Tuesday afternoon's stabbing of a 14-year-old boy at Sunnidale Park.
In a media release on Thursday, police said they are conducting a fulsome and thorough investigation where public safety and the identification of the person responsible remains the primary focus.
Investigators have said the boy was with a friend when he was stabbed near the off-leash dog area, off Coulter Street, in what they have said was an unprovoked incident.
Police have told Barrie 360 the friend administered first aid on the teen until emergency responders arrived. The boy was eventually transported to a Toronto hospital for treatment of a non-life-threatening injury.
"Updates will continue to be provided as the investigation permits, but at present, the Service is asking for the patience of our community while we continue to investigate and work to fully verify the sequence of events that transpired," police stated in the media release.

The suspect is described as:
- male white, 30-35 years old, 5’6 -5’9, medium build, brown eyes, brown hair (grown out buzzcut)
- wearing a baseball hat, white collared button up shirt and a brown suit vest.
