Three motorists had their driver's licences suspended and their vehicles impounded after Barrie police stopped them for speeding and stunt driving on Mapleview Drive East, which has a posted speed limit of 60 km/h.
A 31-year-old Barrie man and a 54-year-old man from North York were nabbed travelling 108 km/h in separate incidents on Monday.
Police say the third incident allegedly involved two drivers who were street racing. One vehicle managed to get away, but the second motorist was safely pulled over. A 30-year-old man from Barrie was charged, as his vehicle was clocked at 99 km/h.
"Speeds this fast on city streets are not only unacceptable, but they are simply dangerous," police said in a news release. " If you choose to speed at speeds that these drivers were travelling at, as a motorist, you must be prepared to be treated in the same manner if stopped by police. Please remember that having a driver’s licence is a privilege, and when abused, is a privilege that can be removed."
