Suspect identified after police say 'obscene and disturbing' messages left in the community

Police say a 43-year-old man is being sought

Police say a suspect has been identified regarding "obscene and disturbing" messages that were left around Barrie, including at a school.

"Last week, the Barrie Police Service investigated a number of occurrences where very obscene and disturbing messages were left in areas that would be seen by members of the community," officers wrote in a release.

"In one such incident, a picture of the disturbing message was posted to a social media platform which resulted in a number of calls to police."

On Tuesday, July 25, officers attended Sunnidale Park and found a construction fence where a message was left, but it had been painted over.

Two days later, the wall of an Anne Street secondary school, a picnic table, a door to the school, parking lot signs, and construction signage were vandalized - and again - "disturbing messaging was left," police say.

On Monday, after obtaining video surveillance, officers say a 43-year-old man was identified as being responsible for the acts of mischief.

"A warrant for this male’s arrest has been requested, and once he is apprehended, further details will be provided," police added.
