Barrie police have had a busy weekend connecting the dots after a person suffered a minor stab wound on Dunlop Street East early Saturday.
Police say the stabbing happened sometime between 2:30 a.m. and 3:15 a.m.
"Investigators were able to identify several persons of interest and attended an address in the area of St. Vincent and Rose Street in an attempt to locate the individuals," police said in a news release.
Officers conducted a traffic stop as the individuals left the address in a vehicle. Two men were arrested as they attempted to flee from police.
"Police located a loaded handgun that had been discarded by the third individual, as well as a quantity of drugs," according to the news release.
Investigators determined the two men arrested were not connected to the Dunlop Street incident, however, the third person who was in the vehicle and fled is believed to be responsible for Saturday's stabbing downtown.
The suspects nabbed during the traffic stop, a 30-year-old from Scarborough and a 23-year-old from Brampton, face drug and firearms-related charges. The older suspect is also charged with assaulting police.
During the arrest, police said one of the accused sustained an injury and as a result, the Special Investigations Unit was notified and has involved their mandate.
In relation to the stabbing, investigators have released photos of individuals they want to identify.
