Carla Ferreira of Barrie received a surprise visit from the police while at work, where she serves as manager of a local Tim Hortons.

Chief Rich Johnston and Deputy Chief Rob Burke attended the restaurant to present Ferreira with a certificate for coming to the aid of a two-year-old boy whom she found wandering alone in the snow dressed only in his pyjamas. She stayed with the child until the police arrived.

Police say they received the call just before 8:30 a.m. on Dec. 8 in the area of Sandringham Drive and Big Bay Point Road. They said the boy was assessed by paramedics as a precaution, but was fine, and reunited with family.

The surprise visit by top brass from the police service, along with the presentation of the certificate to Ferreira, was posted on the Barrie police's social media channels.
