Barrie police say a "proactive" investigation into drug trafficking activity led to arrests yesterday afternoon.

Peter Leon, communications coordinator with the Barrie Police Service, says two 17-year-old Barrie males were located in a vehicle near Dunlop Street West and Ferndale Drive North just after 5:30 p.m.

Leon says the two were taken into custody without incident or injury.

"At the time of their arrest, they were each found to be in possession of a loaded handgun and a quantity of suspected cocaine and methamphetamine," Leon stated in a release.

They were held for a bail hearing.
