Two Barrie residents are among three people facing charges following an Ontario Provincial Police investigation into suspected contraband at Warkworth Institution in Brighton.

Provincial police say a correctional officer reported on October 6 that visitors had allegedly brought a package believed to contain contraband onto the property for delivery.

Police attended the medium-security prison and took several people into custody.

Two Barrie residents, ages 49 and 65, were charged with delivering contraband to or receiving contraband from an inmate.

A 53-year-old was charged with possessing contraband beyond the visitor control point of a penitentiary.

Police did not provide the person's hometown.

All three accused are to appear in court in Cobourg at a future date.
