Two Barrie residents arrested in Facebook Marketplace fraud investigation

Orillia OPP have put the cuffs on two suspects in relation to a provincewide fraud investigation involving Facebook Marketplace.

In October 2023, police heard from a victim who purchased an item on Facebook Marketplace and sent a deposit, and never heard from the seller again.

OPP began an investigation and more victims were identified.

The suspects from Barrie, a 28-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man, were arrested on Dec. 30 and have both been charged with fraud under $5,000.

They were held for a bail hearing and later released from custody,.
