While the final tally is not in, it looks like the Barrie Salvation Army Christmas Kettle campaign could fall about $40,000 short of the organization's $550,000 fundraising target.
"In the case of a shortfall, we will have to review our budgets and to determine how these incomes can be allocated to continue to provide services and programs to those we serve," said Maj. Bruce Shirran, executive director of the Bayside Mission Centre in an email to Barrie 360.
The centre is located in downtown Barrie and is an emergency men's shelter with 48 beds.
The Salvation Army also has an emergency family shelter program based out of a motel that provides assistance, supports and services to 12 families when operating at full capacity.
The in-house program at Bayside serves approximately 22,400 meals per year, according to Shirran.
The Salvation Army had kettles set up across Barrie as well as in Innisfil and Alliston.
The campaign, which ran from Nov. 17 to Dec. 23, is the main fundraiser for the agency.
However, the public can donate to the Barrie Bayside Mission on an on-going basis.
"Donations can be made on-line through The Salvation Army by identifying where you would like your donate to be allocated i.e. Barrie Bayside Mission Centre, or a donation can be dropped -off at our administrative office at 16 Bayfield Street, Monday to Friday 9:00am – 4:00pm, or by calling the Centre at 705-728-3737 using Debit or credit card," Shirran explained in his email. "Also, you can mail your donation to The Salvation Army Barrie Bayside Mission at 16 Bayfield Street. Barrie On L4M 3A4."
