Permit problem delayed opening of new Barrie high school

Permit problem kept it closed Tuesday

There will be classes today at the new south-end high school in Barrie.

Opening day at Maple Ridge Secondary School at Prince William Way and Mapleview Drive was delayed Tuesday over the lack of an occupancy permit.

The permit is required by law to ensure construction has met the minimum life and fire safety requirements under the building code.

The City of Barrie issued the permit late Tuesday afternoon, satisfied that all requirements had been met.

Students from Hewitt’s Creek PS, Hyde Park PS, and Algonquin Ridge ES will be attending the school in its first year.
