Barrie police respond to call about school tagged with 'inappropriate word'

Barrie Police

Barrie police say they were contacted by a concerned citizen last night after a group of youths were spotted acting in a "suspicious manner."

Officials say the call came through shortly after 6:00 p.m.

"The citizen became concerned when the group began to spray paint the wall of a school located on Davidson Street," police said in a release. "Upon arrival of police, the youths responsible had left, but they did leave an inappropriate word on the wall."

Police say there are no known suspects, but emphasize that this act is criminal.

"[It] now creates a situation where a school board employee will be required to attend the school unnecessarily to clean the wall where the word was spray painted," officers said.

"Parents are encouraged to sit down with their children and remind them of the dangers associated with a group gathering as they did last night, especially when their actions lead to criminal activity."
