The City of Barrie has signed a lease agreement with the Barrie Sea Cadets for use of the General John Hayter Southshore Community Centre, securing a dedicated space for the Sea Cadets to continue their valuable work with youth in the region. This agreement will provide the Sea Cadets with a home to nurture leadership, discipline, and community engagement among Barrie's youth.

“Today's signing of the lease agreement with the Sea Cadets marks an exciting new chapter for our community," said Mayor Alex Nuttall. "We are proud to support an organization that plays such a vital role in developing the leadership skills, teamwork, and discipline of our youth. This partnership reinforces Barrie's commitment to fostering strong, engaged communities and providing opportunities for the next generation to thrive. We look forward to seeing the positive impact the Sea Cadets will continue to have on our city."

“We are thrilled to expand this partnership with the City of Barrie through the signing of this new lease agreement at the General John Hayter Southshore Community Centre,” said Diane Chislett, President of the Barrie Navy League.  “This agreement represents an important milestone for the Sea Cadets and Navy League Cadets consequently providing our youth with a dedicated and supportive space to continue fostering leadership, discipline, and community engagement.  We look forward to strengthening our presence in Barrie and working together with the City to support the development of young individuals into the leaders of tomorrow. “

Navy League Cadets is a free program available for youth aged 9 to 12. They can continue with the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets from ages 12 to 18, which also offers free opportunities, including summer camps. The programs offer an environment for local youth to build skills, develop lifelong friendships, and participate in activities that promote personal growth and teamwork.
