The Barrie Sharks are getting a financial boost for the 2026-27 hockey season after being selected as one of 150 teams across Canada to receive support through RONA's RONA Rookies program.
RONA says the Barrie-based minor hockey team has been chosen as part of the third edition of the program, which provides funding and resources to teams that include children and grandchildren of members of the company's network.
As part of the sponsorship, the Barrie Sharks will receive $3,000 in support for the upcoming season. The package includes a $1,000 grant that can be used for tournament participation or other team activities, as well as team apparel featuring both the Sharks and RONA logos and fan accessories designed to help build team spirit.
The home improvement retailer said the initiative reflects its ongoing commitment to supporting local families and helping make organized hockey more accessible to young players across the country.
RONA's Chief Digital and Marketing Officer, Catherine Laporte, said the sport continues to play an important role in communities across the country.
“Hockey has deep roots in Canada’s communities. Through the RONA Rookies program, we are proud to support families and communities that bring the sport to life and to help more kids and teens fully enjoy their season,” said Laporte.
