Barrie Students Bring Gold Home From National Skills Competition

Competition promotes skilled trade and technology careers

The Simcoe County District School Board is celebrating the achievements of three students who attended this year’s Skills Canada National Competition in Halifax.

Two students, Olivia Kennedy and Jessica St. Amand – from Innisdale Secondary School took the gold medal in 2D Character Animation. St. Amand won silver in the category in 2018. She has been accepted to the Bachelor of Animation program at Sheridan College; Kennedy will return to Innisdale next year.

Matthew Cameron from Barrie North Collegiate Institute represented the SCDSB and the province in Electrical Installations.

Skills Canada promotes skilled trade and technology careers to youth by hosting skilled trades competitions for over 500 students from across Canada in more than 40 contest areas.
