Sunnidale Road between Wellington Street West and Shirley Avenue will reopen this afternoon after the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) has completed its bridge replacement project.

The construction project, which began in summer 2023, is part of the MTO’s replacement of three bridges on Highway 400 (Anne Street, Sunnidale Road, and Dunlop Street).

The work on Sunnidale included the following:

  • installation of a new watermain
  • demolishment of the existing bridge and replacing it with a new, larger bridge structure
  • adding new sidewalks to improve traffic operations and active transportation options
  • improvements on Highway 400 to make way for the new bridge, including accommodation for additional highway lanes in the future
  • sewer work, curb and sidewalk construction, asphalt paving, pavement markings, and new lighting/electrical installations
