Barrie police have charged a teenager who allegedly chased several individuals while armed with a machete at the Georgian Mall in March.
As a result of the ongoing investigation, police say they quickly identified the boy and issued a warrant for his arrest.
A 16-year-old boy from Barrie was taken into custody yesterday after turning himself in at police headquarters on Fairview Road.
The teen has been charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, disguise with intent, failure to comply with a release order, and failure to comply with a sentence.
His identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
On March 9, officers responded to the Georgian Mall for reports of several teenagers involved in an altercation, including one allegedly chasing others with a weapon.
Several people were in the mall at the time of the incident, according to police, and investigators were able to obtain cell phone video that shows one male armed with a machete chasing others.
During a search of the outside of the mall, police say officers located a large machete in the snow, believed to be the weapon from the video.
Investigators hope to speak with the victims involved in the altercation.
