“The City is pleased to have reached a tentative agreement with CUPE Local 2380, which represents our inside and outside employees,” said Michael Prowse, Chief Administrative Officer. “The agreement recognizes the commitment of our staff and the important role they play in delivering services to Barrie residents.”
The agreement is a multi-year deal, and the details remain confidential until ratified by both parties. The current contract expired on December 31, 2025. The union, which represents approximately 600 municipal workers, began negotiations for a new contract in late 2025. It is expected that the Union and City Council will vote on the tentative agreement in the coming weeks.
“I want to thank both bargaining committees for the respectful and constructive way negotiations were carried out,” said Megan Varga, President of CUPE Local 2380. “This agreement reflects a lot of hard work and progress and speaks to the value of the work our members do every day serving the community.”
CUPE Local 2380 represents municipal workers who provide public services ranging from parks and recreational services, water and wastewater treatment, public works, court house services, financial and administrative services, city planning, by-law enforcement, building and marina services, and others.
