A two-year-old passenger was unharmed after a two-vehicle collision in Barrie late Monday afternoon, but the driver has been charged with impaired by drug.
Police say the crash happened around 5 p.m. near Veteran's Drive and Mapleview Drive West.
First responders determined all parties, including the toddler, did not sustain serious injuries.
Police say officers noted the driver showed signs of impairment - unsteady, red eyes, and a strong odour of cannabis.
He was taken to police headquarters, where a drug recognition expert determined the motorist's ability to operate a vehicle was impaired by drug.
A 33-year-old Barrie man was charged with impaired driving and driving a vehicle with cannabis readily available.
The vehicle was impounded for seven days.
"Motorists are reminded that driving while impaired by drugs or alcohol is a serious criminal offence that puts lives at risk. Even small amounts of cannabis can affect reaction time, coordination, and decision-making," police said in a news release.
