News Release - City of Barrie
Work has started on Bayview Drive from Little Avenue to Big Bay Point Road to prepare for a road construction project that will improve infrastructure, assist with traffic flow, and add active transportation options in this busy area of the city.
This project will reconstruct and widen Bayview Drive to three lanes, including new storm sewer and crossing culverts, two new lanes (one each northbound and southbound), new street lights, separated bike lanes on both sides of the road, a sidewalk on the west side, a continuous two-way left turn lane, and the replacement of the watermain.
Utility work is taking place this week to prepare for construction and will continue for the next few months, with various utility companies leading the relocation of electricity, phone, cable, and internet services. During the relocations, lane closures will occur and there may be delays on Bayview Drive between Little Avenue and Big Bay Point Road.
The first phase of construction is expected to begin in late spring or early summer of this year. The entire project is expected to be complete by the end of 2026.
The City’s Multi-Modal Active Transportation Master Plan identified Bayview Drive as a key transportation corridor and recommended several transportation improvements to accommodate growth in Barrie to 2031. The project will result in better access and traffic flow to local businesses, Innisdale Secondary School, and the Allandale Recreation Centre.
