Barrie turns the city’s flowers into compost in the fall
Compost available for purchase
You know Autumn is here when Barrie’s Horticulture department starts taking down the flowers that line some of the city’s major thoroughfares.
But what happens to the flowers when they get taken down?
City Hall says the flowers are removed from locations like Lakeshore Drive and taken to the city’s landfill to find new life as compost.
The compost is then used to top up the city’s green spaces, but is also available for purchase. Residents can buy some compost from the city’s landfill. Remember to bring a shovel and wear appropriate footwear.
More information on the city’s practice of selling compost can be found on its landfill website.
