No charges were laid, but Barrie police say they cautioned a group of teenage males after an incident "may have involved an edged weapon."

Officers responded to a call last night just after 8:30 p.m.

"Police responded to a Cundles Road East service station and spoke with the male who contacted police within the attached convenience store and learned that he owed money to a person who had shown up in a car with another male," officers wrote in a release on Tuesday.

"Although there was an exchange of words from the males outside to males inside, no weapon was ever produced, but a gesture suggested that the males outside may have had a weapon."

Police say they determined the teens knew each other and the allegation of a weapon was "deemed to be unfounded."

"After speaking with the males who arrived in the car and their parents, they were advised of the consequences surrounding their actions and cautioned for Criminal Harassment," police said.

"There were no criminal charges laid in this investigation and police suggest that before anyone ever lends a sum of money to another person, no matter the amount, that an agreed term of repayment be discussed and be understood before any lending takes place. Normally these types of incidents are not police matters, but when a weapon is possibly involved, a proper and thorough investigation is always required."

Officers added that due to provisions in the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA), no details relating to the involved youths will be released.
