Barrie’s Defeat Depression virtual walk wants you to get active at home

Register for the event from now until May 30th

Barrie’s Annual Defeat Depression walk is still a go in a virtual form.

The campaign dedicated to ending the stigma around mental health is put on every year by the Mood Disorders Society of Canada (MDSC).

This year they have partnered with RVH Simcoe Muskoka Child and Youth Mental Health Services for its annual campaign.

From now until May 30th participants are encouraged to register and complete a physical activity safely in or around their homes, and share photos or videos on social media with the hashtag #DefeatDepression.

On May 30th they will host a Facebook live event with guest speakers, lived experience testimonials, and entertainment.

Barrie’s event organizer Vanessa Quesnel says with the uncertainty of the current pandemic it is more important than ever to spark conversation and awareness around Mental Health. ” Ensuring that Barrie unites, learns about resources and services within the community that can help not just them, but possibly a friend, family member, or colleague is essential.”

You can register for the event at barrie.defeatdepression.ca from now until May 30th.
