The Barrie Baycats have signed Dominican right-handed pitcher Oscar Moreta for the 2026 season, marking the team's 18th signing ahead of its first pro year.

Moreta, a 22-year-old, was a Baltimore Orioles prospect, playing rookie-ball in the Dominican Summer League from 2022 to 2024. He was released from the organization on Jan. 16.

In 2024, his last listed professional season, he was 4-1 in 12 relief appearances (22 innings pitches) with a 3.68 earned run average and 22 strikeouts.

Predominantly a relief pitcher, Moreta will likely slot into the Baycats bullpen alongside returnees Braeden Pakkala, Carlos Sano and Brad Grieveson, and possibly new signing Breidy Encarnacion.

He is the sixth import signing for the team this year, already exceeding the limit from 2025. In 2026, the Canadian Baseball League (CBL) allows for up to eight non-Canadian or unnaturalized players.

Frank Garcés, Sano, Encarnacion, Juan Mejia, and Edgar Figueroa are the the team's current imports.
