Roadwork on the Bayview Drive transportation improvements project will begin the week of June 10, affecting the Little Avenue to Big Bay Point Road area.
The following improvements will be done as part of this project:
- Bayview Drive will be widened to three lanes, including a continuous two-way left turn lane
- Replacement of the watermain, a new storm sewer, and crossing culverts
- New street lights will be installed
- Separated bike lanes will be added, as well as a sidewalk on the west side of the road
More significant road closures on this section of Bayview Drive will start in early July and go until October.
Area businesses and organizations will remain open during construction, and drivers and pedestrians will be directed safely through the construction zone to access local businesses, Innisdale Secondary School, Allandale Recreation Centre, and other organizations in the area.
Most of the construction is expected to be complete in 2025, with final asphalt paving scheduled to happen in 2026.
The goal of this project is to improve traffic flow and add active transportation options in this busy area of the city. Once the work is complete, it will allow for better access to local businesses, the high school, and the recreation centre.
