BC Man Survives Bear Attack

Tossed three metres through the air

A northern British Columbia man is not sure how he’s still alive after a mama grizzly bear, protecting her three cubs, sunk her teeth into his shoulder, gave him a good shake, then tossed him three metres through the air.

Alex Neumann, 50, got up and made his way back down an overgrown trail to his truck with the bear on his heels. He says he kept talking to the mother, saying things like “I’m not going to hurt your babies, I’m not going to touch them”.

Once in the truck, he fumbled to put the keys in the ignition with the bear sitting outside gazing in at him.

Neumann’s wounds are healing nicely (the attack happened in mid-May) but his hands still shake and he says he has trouble sleeping.
