Teamwork between the public and Barrie police helped nab a suspected impaired driver.
Around 5 p.m. on Monday, a citizen contacted police about a motorist entering the north end of the city from Springwater Township.
"The caller, who was following the vehicle in question southbound on Bayfield Street while maintaining communication with police, observed beer cans and a bottle being discarded from a window, watched the vehicle as it veered into oncoming traffic on two occasions, and followed it to a north Barrie Bayfield Street plaza," police said in a news release.
Officers located the vehicle, and after a brief conversation with the 34-year-old Toronto driver, placed her under arrest for impaired driving. Police say she refused to provide breath samples for analysis.
The accused was charged with impaired driving and refusing to comply with a demand.
Her driver's licence has been suspended for 90 days, and her vehicle has been impounded for seven days.
The accused has a court date in October.
Barrie police thank the concerned citizen who contacted them and maintained communication with the call taker, providing detailed information that was shared with the responding officers.
The police also wish to thank the businesses in the plaza that may have been impacted during this investigation, and appreciate their patience and understanding.
