Local health unit urging extra scrutiny over apps that share vaccine proof info

Third party apps may store more info than you'd like

A head’s up from the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) about third-party vaccine-proof apps.

The SMDHU says it is aware there are volunteers developing proof-of-vaccination apps. It says, while these developers’ hearts might be in the right place, it is highly recommended you review these apps’ privacy and security policies prior to use.

These apps may store information that users may not wish to have stored.

The only accepted pieces of proof-of-vaccination are the vaccine receipts you received when you got your shot or the copy downloaded from the Ministry of Health’s website.

When the province introduces its vaccine certificate QR code system on October 22, it will only share the minimum information required to prove you’ve been vaccinated.
