An unusual fail-to-remain collision investigation in Barrie.
Police say a pickup truck hit a cyclist around 5 p.m. on Monday at the intersection of Patterson Road and Moon Drive.
According to police, they got the heads-up about this incident later that evening after the cyclist, a 33-year-old Barrie man, was taken to the hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries sustained in the crash.
Police say there were two males in the pickup truck, and they took the cyclist and his bike to a family member's home on Patterson Road, and as they left, one of the men wished the cyclist a speedy recovery.
Investigators have determined the cyclist was travelling southbound on the sidewalk on Patterson Road when a white-coloured pickup truck with a ladder attached to it failed to stop for the stop sign at Moon Drive and struck the bike rider.
Barrie Police communications coordinator Peter Leon says there is a mandatory provision under the Highway Traffic Act that any person who is involved in a motor vehicle collision or serious injury is involved or any form of injury or damage over $2,000, they have to provide their information to the other person or another driver.
"In this case, that wasn't done, and the police are trying to complete the collision report," Leon explained. "As a result, we are appealing to the public for their assistance or for that motorist for that matter."
Police are seeking the assistance of the public and are asking that if anyone witnessed this collision or may recognize the description of the involved pickup truck to please contact the investigating officer Constable Ward by emailing him at mward@barriepolice.ca.
