OFM alerted after blaze guts home in east end Barrie

Barrie Fire Chief Kevin White says the Ontario Fire Marshal (OFM) has been contacted after a blaze tore through a home and attached garage on Johnston Street at the intersection with Georgian Drive.

White told Barrie 360 that crews were alerted about the fire around 12:30 Sunday afternoon.

Flames did extend to a neighbouring home, but firefighters were able to stop the blaze from spreading further.

Everyone in the home where the fire started was able to get out of the residence, though one person was taken to the hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.

White said the cause of the fire is undetermined.
