After multiple calls from concerned citizens, Barrie police tracked down and charged a suspected impaired driver on Monday.
Around 11:40, the suspect's vehicle was seen speeding aggressively into a parking lot off Worsley Street and then driving erratically in the area of Toronto Street and Wellington Street.
Police say an officer eventually found the vehicle near Queen's Park on Parkside Drive and arrested the driver on suspicion on impairment by drugs.
The driver, a 30-year-old woman from Oro-Medonte, was charged with impaired operation and cocaine possession. She also had her driver's licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven days.
The vehicle was observed speeding aggressively into a Worsley Street parking lot and then being driven erratically in the area of Toronto and Wellington Streets around 11:40 a.m. An officer quickly located the vehicle in the area of Queen’s Park and Parkside Drive and took the driver into custody on suspicion of being impaired by drugs.
"Drugs can affect your reaction time, judgment, coordination, and ability to make decisions behind the wheel," the Barrie Police Service said in a release. "Every other driver on the road didn’t sign up to take that risk. Neither did the family waiting for them at home."
