A man and woman were both arrested and face numerous charges after a traffic stop led to the seizure of multiple weapons and wads of Canadian cash.
On Friday at 12:30 a.m., officers patrolling the area of Bayfield Street and Grove Street made a traffic stop when they witnessed a white pickup truck make a sudden u-turn, where the road is notably on a grade.
Police suspected impaired driving, but eventually found the occupants of the vehicle were in possession of a loaded 40-calibre handgun, various knives, and a large quantity of Canadian currency. Also found were another large rifle and ammunition.
A 26-year-old male and 45-year-old female both from Toronto were arrested and face seven charges all relating to the possession and storage of the firearm, including while prohibited.
Handguns, in particular, are deemed to be prohibited firearms in Canada.
It was later discovered that the woman was on release on outstanding charges, and the man was her Surety for her current Release Order. As a result, she was given the additional charges of failing to comply with probation and failing to comply with a release order.
Both were held pending a bail hearing.
