Bracebridge OPP have charged a 14-year-old male rider of an e-dirt bike after they fleed police in Bracebridge on Thursday night.
Patrolling officers had reportedly noticed the teen operating the bike in an unsafe manner at 11 p.m. and subsequently attempted to initiate a traffic stop on Douglas Drive. However, the rider fled teh scene after appearing to slow down and comply.
He rode through a ditch and eventually became dismounted from the bike before officers arrested them.
The youth was charged with careless driving, failure to stop for police, owning and operating a motor vehicle without insurance, and driving without a licence, permit, helmet or a proper rear light on the bike.
He will appear in a Bracebridge court on Nov. 12.
"Bracebridge OPP has received multiple complaints from members of the public about the ongoing unsafe and often harassing behaviour exhibited by young people operating e-bikes and electric dirt bike style vehicles," the detachment stated in a release. "No one under the age of 16 years is permitted to operate an e-bike and electric dirt bikes are not permitted to be driven on the roads at all, regardless of age."
