BWG to honour Cst. Devon Northrup with renaming of local park next week

Bradford will rename park to honour fallen South Simcoe Police officer

News release - Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury

In partnership with the South Simcoe Police Service (SSPS) and with the support of the Northrup family, the Town of BWG is dedicating a local park in honour of Constable Devon Northrup, who tragically lost his life in the line of duty on October 11, 2022.

We invite the community to join us for the official park renaming and dedication ceremony for Constable Devon Northrup on Monday, September 18 at 5:00 p.m.

Currently known as Middletown Park, the community park located at 140 Langford Boulevard will officially be renamed as “Constable Devon Northrup Memorial Park” during a ceremony next week.

The ceremony will commence at 5:00 pm with an opening ceremony by the SSPS Colour Guard, followed by remarks from Mayor James Leduc, Police Services Board Chair Chris Gariepy, South Simcoe Police Chief John Van Dyke, and the sign unveiling.

“Since the tragic passing of Constables Devon Northrup and Morgan Russell, BWG Council has wanted to pay special tribute to local officer, Constable Northrup," said Mayor James Leduc.

"Nothing can bring these heroes back or take away the pain both of their families, friends, and colleagues have had to endure since their passing. But we hope that for generations to come Constable Devon Northrup Memorial Park may serve as a place of honour and reflection, and a constant reminder of the dedication and courage our officers pledge to our community each and every single day.”

In honour of Constable Morgan Russell, the Town of Innisfil renamed its South Innisfil Arena and Community Centre to Morgan Russell Memorial Arena and Community Centre, earlier this year.

Parking at the ceremony
Reserved parking for Devon’s family, SSPS, and other dignitaries will be available along Langford Boulevard, at the south entrance of the park.

Community members and media are asked to park in the general parking area along Langford or other nearby streets, as available. Auxiliary officers and Town staff members will be on-site to assist at the reserved parking area.
