Brampton broker accused of taking payments on non-existent vehicle insurance policies

Two victims have come forward thus far. Police believe there could be more.

A Brampton man is accused of defrauding two people out of insurance money.

The first victim reported they’d contacted an insurance broker in 2018 to get a vehicle insured. Since that time, the victim had been making regular e-transferred payments to the broker.

While speaking with a new insurance company, it was discovered the victim’s vehicle has been uninsured since July, 2019, despite regular payments continuing. A second victim has since come forward with the same complaint against the broker.

The OPP arrested a 35-year-old Brampton man on Wednesday. He faces charges including fraud and forgery. Investigators believe there could be more victims. Anyone who has a similar tale to tell should contact the Nottawasaga OPP at 1-888-310-1122, or their closest police service.
