A man has been charged in connection to a break-in at Trinity Anglican Church in downtown Barrie.
Police responded to the property at 24 Collier Street around 12:30 Monday afternoon.
"Responding officers set up containment around the church upon their arrival in order to ensure the suspect could not escape," according to a police media release on Tuesday.
Police determined the suspect was able to enter the church after a stained-glass window was broken.
When officers entered the church, they found a significant amount of damage to an organ, pews, and a Christmas nativity scene.
Police found the suspect "precariously balancing" on a beam that spanned across the front alter area.
After negotiating with the man, he was convinced to come down and was arrested by police.
Barrie Fire was requested by police because the man was in a balcony area, though firefighters were not needed as a result of the suspect surrendering without incident.
A 32-year-old of no fixed address has been charged with mischief over $5,000 and break and enter.
He has a bail hearing scheduled for Tuesday.
