Car crashes into downtown Barrie restaurant, driver AWOL

Barrie police located a car in a downtown business, but there was no driver.

Around 5:30 a.m. Friday, officers responded to a report of a vehicle that crashed into Rooh's Berlin Doner and Kebab at 1 Dunlop Street East at Bayfield Street, at the Five Points.

They found the vehicle inside the business, but there was no driver.

"Concerned for the well-being of the driver, responding officers set up a perimeter to allow for a canine track to take place. The track concluded, and no driver was located," according to a news release from Peter Leon, Barrie Police Service communications coordinator.

Police added that damage to the storefront is significant, and it will require structural and glass repairs.

The investigation is ongoing.
