A speeding vehicle caught the attention of a Southern Georgian Bay OPP officer on patrol near the Highway 400 off-ramp at Vasey Road in Coldwater.
Around 10:30 p.m. on Sunday, a car was clocked travelling 142 km/h in a 100 km/h zone, according to police, and the aggressive driving caused a transport truck to veer sharply to prevent a collision. The driver blew through a stop sign, lost control and the vehicle entered the ditch.
The officer arrested the driver at the scene. During a search of the man and the vehicle, police said weapons were located, which was a violation of a probation order already in place.
A 22-year-old from Chelmsford was charged under the Highway Traffic Act for various offences, as well as criminal charges including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order.
The accused was released from police custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.
