A historic moment for Catch the Ace
This wasn’t just another draw. This was the largest jackpot in the lottery’s history, making it an unforgettable moment for Lydia and the entire community. The excitement built for months as the jackpot climbed higher and higher, creating buzz, friendly rivalries, and plenty of suspense until that fateful envelope was opened.
More than a lottery: A community effort
Catch the Ace isn’t just about big wins. Since its start in 2017, the lottery has supported countless community projects and charitable causes.
Originally launched to help the Barrie Legion manage essential building upgrades and unexpected costs, the initiative quickly grew. In 2022, the Rotary Club of Barrie joined forces with the Legion, creating an even bigger impact.
Over the last six years, the Barrie Catch the Ace lottery has contributed more than $300,000 to vital Legion projects like new POS systems, parking lot repairs, fire safety upgrades, and building improvements. But the giving didn’t stop there.
Together with the Rotary Club, the lottery has funded 12 local organizations, making life better for countless residents.
Here’s a snapshot of the impact so far:
- Alzheimer Society of Simcoe County: $15,500
- Canadian Mental Health Association (Simcoe County): $15,500
- Special Olympics Ontario (Barrie): $16,000
- Barrie Food Bank: $7,000
- Gilda’s Club Simcoe Muskoka: $15,000
- Hospice Simcoe: $11,500
- Barrie Women and Children’s Shelter: $15,500
- Glowing Hearts Charity: $5,000
- Youth Haven Barrie: $2,000
- Salvation Army Barrie Chapter: $15,500
- Camphill Foundation of Canada: $2,000
- Canadian Veterans in UN Peacekeeping (Central Ontario): $14,500
The Rotary Club alone has contributed over $164,000 from its share of the proceeds.
The real win? Supporting veterans and community needs
When Catch the Ace began, the mission was simple: help the Barrie Legion cover projects and support veterans. Today, that mission has grown into something much bigger, strengthening the entire community through shared generosity.
What’s next?
With this record-breaking round now closed, one thing is certain: the success of Catch the Ace proves the power of community spirit.
A huge thanks go out to all the players, sponsors, and volunteers who made this possible. Your contributions have changed lives, supported essential services, and kept the Legion strong for future generations.
And to Lydia … enjoy your well-deserved winnings!
