An 80-year-old Midhurst man who was found snoozing behind the wheel of a car is now up on drug charges.
A citizen saw the man in a vehicle in the parking lot of a Yonge Street coffee shop around 7:30 p.m. Monday and alerted authorities. When police arrived, they found their sleeping beauty and the car in question with the engine running. According to police, when officers looked into the vehicle, they saw a small bag that contained a white powdery substance and paraphernalia related to the sale of illegal drugs.
Police awakened the driver, then searched the vehicle and allegedly found cocaine and cash. To add to his woes, the man exhibited signs of impairment and failed a sobriety test, but later cleared impairment testing.
He was charged with possession and trafficking cocaine, and has a September court date.
Police are thanking the citizen who tipped them off, saying they may have prevented something much worse.
