South Simcoe Police (SSP) have laid charges in connection with what they say was a kidnapping investigation that began with a missing person report.
Late Tuesday morning, police responded to a residence in Bradford for a report of a missing 32-year-old man who had failed to return home the night before.
"Police were subsequently contacted by York Regional Police regarding an assault and kidnapping reported by the missing man. The victim told police he had attended an address in Bradford in the evening on Monday, November 13, 2023, to meet with a friend," according to a news release from SSP on Friday. "Sometime later, two suspects arrived at the address and began assaulting the victim inside the home. The suspects then kidnapped the victim and transported him to a second residence in King Township where they held the victim against his will and continued to assault him."
Police said the victim was able to escape the home on Tuesday and get help from York Regional Police who attended the location and arrested two suspects.
The victim was taken to hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Police executed search warrants at homes in Bradford and King Township.
A 46-year-old man of no fixed address was charged with:
· Forcible confinement
· Assault with a weapon
· Robbery with a firearm
A 25-year-old Toronto man was charged with:
· Kidnapping while using a firearm
· Forcible confinement
· Failure to comply with judicial release (5 counts)
· Assault with a weapon
· Robbery with a firearm
· Firearm or weapon possession contrary to prohibition order (2 counts)
· Uttering threats
The accused were held for bail hearings.
The investigation remains ongoing at this time.
