A 42-year-old Barrie man is facing 28 charges after an extensive Barrie Police investigation into a series of commercial break-and-enters across the city.
Detectives spent weeks reviewing surveillance footage and investigating reports of commercial break-ins that occurred between June 29 and the end of July. Investigators were able to identify the same suspect in 14 incidents and believe he may be responsible for as many as 30 break-ins during that period.

The arrest came July 30, after an officer on general patrol near Perry Street and Milligan’s Pond observed what police described as suspicious activity.
After taking a closer look, the officer recognized the individual from a previous break-and-enter investigation. The suspect fled the area on a bicycle, leading officers on a short pursuit. Barrie Police officers, assisted by the K9 Unit, established a perimeter and searched the area.
Police Service Dog “Dutch” tracked the suspect to a forested area near Perry Street, where officers took him into custody.
As a result of the investigation, the accused has been charged with:
- Break-and-enter (14 counts)
- Wear disguise with intent (10 counts)
- Possession of break-in instruments (4 counts)
Additional charges may be laid as the investigation continues.
Detectives are asking anyone with information or video footage of suspicious activity between June 29 and July 29 to come forward.
Police are particularly interested in incidents that may have occurred in:
- The Anne Street corridor between Ferndale Drive and Innisfil Street
- The St. Vincent Street corridor between Livingstone Street and Bell Farm Road

Police share crime prevention tips for businesses
In light of the investigation, Barrie Police are reminding business owners to invest in quality security camera systems and routinely ensure equipment is functioning properly and recording.
Police also recommend that businesses:
- Remove money from cash registers and cash drawers after hours
- Leave drawers open to show they are empty and help prevent damage
- Check windows, doors and other access points to ensure premises are secure before closing
Police say these measures can help reduce losses and minimize damage in the event of a break-in.
