Barrie man facing dozens of charges following police pursuit of stolen vehicle

Investigators connected suspect with a number of previous crimes

Nobody was hurt but a few squad cars will require some repair after a vehicle theft resulted in a police chase.

A woman called the South Simcoe Police Service at around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday to report her vehicle had just been stolen. She told police she was fuelling up at a gas bar on Commerce Park Drive in Innisfil when she was approached by two men who took her vehicle.

A short time later, police got the call of a suspicious vehicle in the area of St. Paul Road and Edgar Street in Alcona, which turned out to be the stolen vehicle. Police tracked it down and gave chase.

Two cruisers were struck by the suspect vehicle as officers attempted to box in the stolen wheels and arrest the driver.

Investigators say they were able to connect the driver to a series of other incidents reported over the last few weeks. A 21-year-old Barrie man faces 27 criminal charges including theft, break and enter, flight from police and more. A 15-year-old boy was also charged with two counts of motor vehicle theft and possession of stolen property.
