Charges possible after crash shuts down Barrie roadway overnight

Non-life threatening injuries to the driver

A 32-year-old Barrie man was taken to hospital after a single-vehicle crash shut down Essa Road.

Police were called to the area of Essa and Burton Ave. shortly before midnight Wednesday to find a vehicle had left the roadway and struck a hydro pole. The pole had snapped and hydro wires were downed, bringing about the closure of the roadway.

The man behind the wheel was taken to Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The investigation into the circumstances leading to the crash continues, police say charges could be possible.
