Charities to benefit from latest offering from Barrie author

Proceeds to Youth Haven and Busby Centre

A local author says she’ll donate a portion of the proceeds from her latest novel to Youth Haven and the David Busby Centre in Barrie.

It’s actually a novella…in verse…penned by Dorothy Sjöholm. “It tells the story of twin sisters who grow up on an Ontario farm in a very poor family. It’s a story of guilt and of sibling rivalry and all that stuff of family relationships. It’s a large family but focusses just on those twins.”

Sjöholm admits some people might be a little turned off by the poetic aspect of the work, “As soon as they see the word poem they think…I won’t understand it. I don’t think it’s difficult to understand at all, as long as you’re comfortable with a story that deals with lots of flashbacks, and most people are used to that.”

Sjöholm is hosting a reading tomorrow night (November 6) at Grace United Church, with music and refreshments. It starts at 6:30pm.
