Barrie Police are giving a thumbs up to a citizen who tipped them off to a suspected impaired driver on Sunday evening.

Police received a call from a resident around 6:30 p.m., and the witness was able to provide a description of the vehicle which included the make, colour and licence plate as well as a description of the female driver. The vehicle was followed from the downtown to the northeast part of the city.

Officers located the vehicle at a residence and after a brief investigation, the woman was arrested.

The 33-year-old from Barrie was taken to police headquarters where a breathalyzer was administered and police allege she blew nearly three times over the legal limit.

She was charged with impaired driving as well as two offences under the Highway Traffic Act.

Her vehicle was impounded for seven days and her license was suspended for three months.
