An eagle-eyed citizen alerted Barrie Police to suspicious activity in the area of Shannon Street and Marion Crescent in the city's east end around 11:30 on Thursday morning, and now two men from Toronto are up on charges.
Police say the citizen reported the males were looking into vehicles parked in driveways.
Soon after, officers located the pair and began an investigation.
Authorities say a 19-year-old provided a false name and was arrested for obstructing police. While being taken into custody, police say cocaine was found.
Based upon property found on the second man, police believe the two were in the area possibly to carry out a break-and-enter.
Police say the second male, a 22-year-old, was found to be in possession of fentanyl and a concealed weapon.
Both individuals were taken to Barrie Police Headquarters where the investigation continued.
"At this time, the second male was also found to be in possession of suspected cocaine that was packaged for sale. These drugs were located concealed beneath clothing he was wearing," police said in a news release on Friday.
The men were held in custody and are to appear by video link for a bail hearing on Friday.
"Barrie Police wish to acknowledge and thank the concerned citizen who contacted police to report these two suspicious males," the release stated. "The observations made may have prevented a break-and-enter or a theft from an unlocked motor vehicle from occurring."
